Hello Sandrine, Can you tell us a bit about your background?
I studied philosophy before decided to integrate a School of Fine Arts. I was firstly very interested in video art installation at the same time I started to write experimental poetry. Afterwards, I oriented my artistic practice in 3D computer animations and focused my writing process in a digital approach.
Can you tell us about your work and elaborate on your interests in the issue of technological change and the performative place of poetry conceived through technologies?
My work consist mainly of experimental animations, sound poetry and multimedia performances in collaboration with musicians. I try to write poetry through technological references and experimental processings. I’m fascinated by the possibilities of future langages conveyed by a form of digital imaginationmixing virtual space, non-human behavior an unconscious mind.
What is your opinion on virtual space for artists? What can be filled between the gaps of virtual space and reality?
Virtual space can be used as an imaginative and creative space. However in our societies, where immateriality is now part of the real, the gap between virtuality and reality is very fluctuated. The interaction between this two mental spaces contruct new perceptions of the world and transform our human identities. More than to be just the reflect of our own reality, virtual space can be used to examine the mutations of our behaviors influenced by new technologies. Reality is just a construction of the mind. So the main question is to know what is the mental process used to access to what is named reality.
Some of your videos do not have sound/music, what does silence mean to you?
My last videos, which consist in series of 20 very short animations, are conceived without sound to focus attention on the rythm of the caracters in movement.
Do you have any bad habits, and if so, do they affect your work?
I'm not a very sociable person. My way of working, alone with my computer, accentuates this fault even more.
Are you working on any new projects these days?
I’m currently working on a new project which combine an immersive and interactive environment to a digital narrative poetry. This project could be defined as an experimental video game which the quest consist in crossing virtual spaces conceived as spaces of inner thoughts.
